Damiano Damiani's A Genius, Two Friends and an Idiot
Sergio Leone had the idea for this film and produced it (even though he isn't in the credits) after seeing Bertrand Blier's Going Places (Les Valseuses). He wanted to put its trio of characters in the Wild West and recruited Miou-Miou, Robert Charlebois (then at the height of his fame) and Terence Hill, who had just been a hit in My Name is Nobody.
The light-hearted title sets the tone for a laugh at the spaghetti Western, a genre then on its last legs. But Damiano Damiani, picked to direct by Leone, wasn't just anyone and had adapted the work of Elsa Morante and Alberto Moravia for the screen. Laurent Gerra, a great fan of film classics and Westerns, is perfect to introduce this unique film.
