Politics inspires Bollywood
The historical love drama Jodhaa Akbar is this year’s hit in India, winning most of the top prizes at the 10th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) ceremony in June. It’s a powerful brew of love and politics involving a Muslim emperor and a Hindu princess. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and starring Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, Sonu Sood, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Suhasini Mulay, it tells the story of the 16th century politically arranged marriage between the great Mughal (Muslim) emperor Akbar and the Rajput (Hindu) princess Jodhaa. The matchless beauty of Jodhaa win the emperor’s heart.
