Scarlett sinks the Titanic

Victor Fleming’s 1939 super-classic Gone with the Wind is the biggest earner in the history of the cinema, according to the economic website Bloomberg.com.

But it all depends on how you figure it.  If you take account of inflation, the film wins easily, having so far grossed $1.45 billion, topping the $1.28 billion earned by Star Wars. But otherwise the winner is James Cameron’s Titanic (1997),  which has grossed more $600 million.
