Love hurts
One person’s obsession with another is a great and (almost) inexhaustible subject for filmmakers. The website IFC.com has an article about several films that, since Clint Eastwood’s Play Misty For Me, have virtually created a new genre – obsessive fan movies. Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy (1982), with Robert de Niro and Jerry Lewis, is about such unhealthy obsession. Rob Reiner’s Misery (1990), with Kathy Bates and James Caan, deals with psychosis and self-destruction. As does the little-known film The Cage (1975) by Pierre Granier-Deferre, with Lino Ventura and Ingrid Thulin, which the site does not list.
